The following are some frequently asked questions regarding working as a skimpy barmaid in country Western Australia. What is a skimpy barmaid?
Various pubs in Perth and country areas of Western Australia have girls that work behind the bar in their lingerie. The girls perform all normal duties of a barmaid namely pouring beer and mixing drinks as well as wiping down the bar, washing glasses, emptying drip trays, ashtrays etc, whilst chatting to the customers.

A skimpy barmaid needs to have an outgoing personality, needs to get on with guys of all ages and be pleasant and friendly. The idea of her working is to keep the customers entertained and drinking in the bar for as long as possible to increase the pubs revenue. If she is shy and does not work the bar the customers will usually leave and drink elsewhere.

What experience is required to work as a skimpy barmaid?
Bar experience is a good thing but not essential as you can learn on the job. Some training will be provided before you leave for the country areas so you are aware of the basic beers, glass sizes and mixed drinks. You need to keep an eye on the customers at all times to ensure that they have a drink, when their drink is almost empty you need to ask them if they would like another. The pub owners are not making money to pay for the skimpy workers wages if they are not selling any drinks.

Some of the pubs are really busy and most of the time will be spent serving drinks. Occasionally you will come across a quiet pub where more time needs to be spent talking to the customers.

How do I get to the country pubs?
Return transport to and from the pubs is paid for from Perth. We usually book a bus, train or plane depending on the whereabouts of the pub. All these details are provided to you as well as obviously the pub details, contact people and general information about the pub.

How much work will I get as barmaid in the country?
We do our roster up each week and rotate the girls we have working for us around the different pubs. It is a casual position and we can provide as much or as little work as you request. Some girls work for us continually requesting time off on an occasional basis and others work a few weeks on and a week off. We are very flexible providing we have 2 weeks notice for requested time off.

What about accommodation?
You stay at the hotel you are working at. All girls are provided with a clean and secure room. Most of the time we can run one job onto the next but sometimes you have to come back to Perth for a night or two before catching transport to your next job.

What are the pay rates for barmaids in the country?
The pay rates are between $25 and $35 per hour. The number of hours you work from pub to pub can vary from as little as 10 over 2 days to 50 hours over 7 days. Most commonly though is 30 hours over 6 days. We request a minimum number of 5 hours a day from each pub. Most of the shifts are from 5 pm onwards but some pubs also do lunchtimes.

What do skimpy barmaids wear?
The type of costumes the girls wear are either bra, g string and see thru sarongs or little boy shorts and bras. We have some costumes on rack which are for sale but you can get your outfits from anywhere you like providing they meet the set requirement.

Can I make any tips working as a skimpy?
Although not compulsory a lot of the girls earn extra money by passing the jug around. The guys in the bar at the time throw money in the jug and the girl changes into a see thru top for a certain amount of time depending on how much is in the jug. The going rate is $2 per minute so if there is $20 in the jug the girls will go see thru for 10 mins, the jug is usually passed around about 5 times per night in these instances. After the time is up the girl changes back into her normal top. In other pubs the jug may be passed around at the end of the night and there may be $100 in it. Usually the girls will go see thru for about 50 mins in this instance. Whilst most girls don’t do the see thru to start most usually end up doing it as between an extra $50 and $150 a night can be earned.
